本年10月、当科の浜田さおり先生、丸山邦隆先生が日本脳神経外科学会の専門医試験に見事合格しました。試験勉強に集中する時間をほとんど用意してあげることができなかったにもかかわらず、合格してくれて安堵しました。しかし、彼らには「おめでとう」とは言っていません。ここ富山で己を律して研鑽を積んでいれば合格は当然ですし、今回の専門医試験合格は彼らにとって目標ではなく、ようやく第一歩を踏み出せたに過ぎません。完全にリタイヤするまで脳神経外科「道」の修行に終わりはありませんし、この道は決して生半可な覚悟で歩むことはできません。黒田も、未だに立山の修験者の気持ちを忘れずに日々を送っているつもりです。
彼らが、今後も苦難に遭遇しながらも全身全霊でそれを乗り越えて、立派な脳神経外科医、神経科学者に成長するよう、温かい心と厳しい目を持って皆で応援していきたいと考えています。
Boys and girls, be ambitious.
The Long & Winding Road To Be A Neurosurgeon Vol. 58
In October of this year, Dr. Saori Hamada and Dr. Kunitaka Maruyama of our department successfully passed the Japanese Society of Neurosurgery’s board exam for medical specialists. I was relieved that they passed the exam, even though I could not provide them with enough time to concentrate on studying for the exam. However, I did not say “congratulations” to them. It is only natural for them to pass the exam if they are keeping themselves disciplined and studying hard here in Toyama, and passing the board exam is not a goal for them, but merely the first step they have finally taken. There is no end to training on the “path” of neurosurgery until one retires completely, and this is a path that cannot be walked with half-hearted determination. Kuroda, too, is still carrying on with his daily life, never forgetting the feelings of the ascetics of Mt. Tateyama.
I hope that they will continue to encounter hardships, but overcome them with all their might and grow to become splendid neurosurgeons and neuroscientists, and that we will all support them with warm hearts and strict eyes.
